... for Harry! England and Saint George!

Spring Break begins today. While classes are not in session, the campus daycare is closed. In just a few short moments I will pick up my keys, drive to the daycare and collect my two older children, ages three years and twenty-three months. Before this endurance test of patience and rationality begins I am begging for everyone to send "calm" vibes my way with the hopes that they will go a long way towards preserving the peace in this house over the next ten days.
Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more,
Or close the wall up with our English dead!
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility,
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger:
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favored rage;
Then lend the eye a terrible aspect:
Let it pry through the portage of the head
Like the brass cannon; let the brow o'erwhelm it
As fearfully as doth a gallèd rock
O'erhang and jutty his confounded base,
Swilled with the wild and wasteful ocean.
Now set the teeth and stretch the nostril wide,
Hold hard the breath and bend up every spirit
To his full height! On, on, you noble English,
Whose blood is fet from fathers of war-proof,
Fathers that like so many Alexanders
Have in these parts from morn till even fought
And sheathed their swords for lack of argument.
Dishonor not your mothers; now attest
That those whom you called fathers did beget you!
Be copy now to men of grosser blood
And teach them how to war! And you, good yeomen,
Whose limbs were made in England, show us here
The mettle of your pasture. Let us swear
That you are worth your breeding; which I doubt not,
For there is none of you so mean and base
That hath not noble lustre in your eyes.
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot!
Follow your spirit; and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry! England and Saint George!'

Hey, I just found you from Harlot! Thank you for the post about parental responsibilities and trolls ... creeped me out.

Sorry, a cat tromped across the keyboard before I could finish my previous post.

The troll story is HORRID. People do not realize how dangerous this sort of behavior is, even if it is not acted upon today, it will be acted upon someday.

I will keep checking her blog and hope she finds the courage to get on with her life. If she retreats, they win.

Excellent post about parental responsibility. Seems like many of today's parents want to blame everyone but themselves.

True recent story ... we live one house away from the intersection of a major street with insane traffic. One early evening not long ago, a teenage girl turned from the major street onto our street at high speed ... lost control of the car ... SHEARED OFF A WHEEL and the right-front quarter panel on a metal post ... and plowed into the fence and dense shrubs of the house on the corner. Airbags went off, and the girl emerged from what had been a brand-new car unhurt but in tears. THREE ADULTS converged to check on her. She called her mother. Mother arrived in a brand-new Jaguar. After Mom conferred with daughter and determined that she was uninjured, the adult witnesses, who had stayed around to comfort the girl while Mom was en route, converged to explain to the mother what they had seen.

The mother said, and I quote:

"My daughter was NOT speeding. She TOLD me she was not speeding. And I believe my daughter. Why should I believe you? I don't even know you."

No "thank you for helping." Nothing. We waited till the cops showed up and gave our names as witnesses and went home. All we'd wanted to do was reassure the mom that the child was okay, and how glad we were that she'd had her seat belt on in addition to the air bags ...

Go figure -- in spite of the debris field and sheared-off car parts, Mommy was in serious denial. And this is with a girl who is only a bad driver (not good, but no criminal intent).

It's even more terrifying when parents of potential Ted Bundys sit around in denial, unable or unwilling to understand the profound dnager of violent sexual language, threats and imagery.

I've encountered all sorts of troll stories out there, and not all of them are online. Particularly, there's a post from Savy over at Saping My Way about some horrid little brats that live near her.
